Manchester, with its thriving culture and mass employment opportunities, is unsurprisingly the jewel of the north and one of the UK’s most appealing cities. Rather than live in the city centre, many people are now choosing instead to live in the wider Manchester area and commute into the centre. If you’d prefer a more relaxed and affordable area in which to live, we have just the place in mind…
Located in Greater Manchester just five miles from the city centre, Reddish in Stockport offers an up and coming alternative for potential buyers and tenants who want the best of the city with a more chilled-out, relaxed lifestyle. Reddish was a hub during the industrial revolution, playing host to a number of cotton mills which saw Manchester’s craftsmanship exported across the world. Sir William Henry Houldsworth, a renowned figure in the industrial revolution, donated the clock which still sits at Houldsworth Square.
Today, the area still retains some of that heritage influence with cool renovated buildings such as our own Elisabeth Mill, a restoration of a traditional mill featuring stylish apartments. Most attractively, the area offers suburban life with an easy commute into Manchester whether you’re catching public transport or driving.
Reddish is primarily a residential area, but there are still plenty of activities and things to see and do.
Sports
Want to stay fit? You’ll be spoiled for choice with a variety of different health clubs and gyms including Kingfisher Health Club. If you’d like to be adventurous and try something different, there is a martial arts club named 2 Technical Muay Thai which teaches the art of Thai Boxing.
Walk amongst nature in Reddish. Reddish Vale is a local reserve park which features a duck pond, country walks and even horse riding facilities if you’d like to take a trot. Reddish Vale’s Animal Farm offers ample opportunity to greet more animals of different shapes and sizes.
Looking for a relaxed day out on the fairway? Reddish boasts two golf courses – Reddish Vale Golf Club and Houldsworth Golf Club, which is located right next to our Elisabeth Gardens development. Step out of your home and onto 18 holes of great golf.
Do you have children? Pop out and support the local team – Reddish North End FC is a community based football club and supports new players. Located at the Mike Doyle Centre, it’s easy to reach from anywhere in Reddish.
Eating out
In terms of eating out, there are a host of excellent restaurants in the area, particularly around Broadstone Road. The Baan Phad thai Restaurant is an excellent option offering affordable, delicious dining from the south east Asian country, while the A Tavola Sicilian Street Food offers Italian Fare. There’s something for everyone, including Bengali and British Bistro options.
Drinking
For the beer fans, Robinsons Brewery presents an amazing opportunity to see the history of one of England’s oldest brewing experts. Based in the heart of Stockport, the brewery has a visitor centre that hosts tours as well as a bar and restaurant if you’d like to pair beer with food (and who wouldn’t?)
Reddish plays host to a few great bars including the Thatched Tavern and Union Inn. The award winning Heaton Hops craft brewery and tap room is also in Reddish, which is worth a trip for any fans of the current craft beer revolution.
Reddish has two train stations, Reddish North and South – each offers a short train into the city centre taking just 11 minutes to reach Manchester Piccadilly. The average journey time is 13 minutes and between Monday-Friday there are approximately 57 trains running daily, giving you ample opportunity to reach work in time.
You can also take the 203 bus from North Reddish P.O for a 25 minute journey into the city centre.
Driving is also easy from Reddish, taking less than 20 minutes if traffic is clear. Most importantly, however, is that Reddish’ location on the periphery of the city centre means you can easily escape the city at weekends and drive to locations such as the Lake District easily.
